How to create a social website using APIs

Social-PuzzleThere are only a few days left to go before the official US launch of the Viadeo API at Bring on the APIs in San Francisco  - Join us to find out why you should be interested in social APIs for your business!

So we asked Amy Reams, Business Development Manager at Gigya, a successful integration platform for websites and social networks, to give her thoughts on why developers and entrepreneurs should be interested in social APIs and how they can use them to create relevant services for users.

Nora Poggi/Viadeo : What does the Gigya API bring to businesses?
Amy Reams/Gigya :
We created what we call Gigya’s “Super API “, which aggregates all the social connections into one single API. Twitter, Facebook, Google… Are all available at once with Gigya integration. Since social networks work differently and evolve so rapidly, once you’ve integrated the Gigya API you don’t need to implement those changes, we manage them for you. Google’s +1 button for instance, was automatically integrated. We offer websites a number of social plugins including Social Login, which allows users to register on a website using their Facebook, Twitter and other social identities. It’s a lot more simple for them and it gives rich profile data for the websites using Social Login. We are currently working with media companies such as ABC, CBS & Reuters as well as major brands and ecommerce sites such as The Home Depot and Verizon, to provide users with a more social experience. For example when visiting your CBS website you can now live chat with your Facebook friends ; we also added some gamification features to enhance engagement on websites.

NP : What are you going to showcase at SF New Tech on September 7th?
AR : We want to talk about the increasing adoption rate of social login and social plugins. Registering on a website using your Facebook or Twitter identity improves the user experience and we’ll show what adoption looks like on the consumer end and what it means for businesses. We’ll also feature examples from some our e-commerce and publisher clients, and how sites can boost conversions using Gigya API.

NP : What can you tell us about integrating the professional social network Viadeo ?
AR : We are also working on adding Viadeo’s API to our “Super API” so that users can login across the web with their Viadeo identity. It should be live very soon, we’ll talk about it more on September 7th!

Join Gigya, along with Salesforce, Simply Hired, Klout, 3scale, Context.io, Tech legend Robert Scoble, at SF New Tech’s Bring on the APIs on September 7th!
